SUMMER 7’s

COME JOIN THE SUMMER FUN!

Summer 7s
All teams will have an even mix of seniors/masters, male and female and juniors U12’s upwards.

5 week season every Friday evening culminating with the club Christmas party on Friday December 6th.
First match kicks off at 7pm each week.

Summer 7s is a modified game of hockey with 7 players on the field at any one time. A ‘Kicking Back’ will not be used. A list of seeded players will be developed by the coaches.

Match Duration: Two 15 min halves with 5 minute interval

Half size field with scoring circles

Rules of Competition:

Team Compositions: Seven players on Field, 1 or 2 Substitutes.

The stick must not be raised above the knee.

No backswing will be permitted when passing or slapping the ball (hitting is not permitted).

Definition: The ball is hit if the stick leaves the playing surface. It is permitted to drag the stick along the surface before it strikes the ball.

The ‘Play On’ Rule will be used.

Lifting the ball above knee height is not permitted at any time and will be penalized under dangerous play provision.

At the time of a free hit being taken, no other player may attempt to play the ball within three metres of the free hit.

Obstruction (definition) Obstruction is using the body as a shield to protect the ball or inhibit players. This can cause danger to other players and to oneself. The obstruction rule is to be applied with discretion to discourage ‘playing for obstruction’ and free hits.

The ball is not allowed to touch the foot at any time. (Foot obstruction), however the Umpire may call “play on”.

For a deliberate breach within a player’s defensive half a penalty corner shall be awarded.

Penalty Corner

A modified penalty corner shall apply:

An attacker shall push the ball out from one of the penalty corner marks. All other attackers shall be outside the circle.

The ball must be passed at least once before a direct shot at goal can be taken.

Until the push out is taken, no player may stand behind the goal line. Four defenders will stand outside the goal on the opposite side of the goal to where the ball is being pushed out. The remaining three defenders will stand on the centre line.

For a deliberate breach or an unintentional breach that would have otherwise resulted in a goal inside the circle, a penalty push will be taken without any other player from the opposing team in the goal.

A short corner shall be awarded to the attacking team for any ball that is played over the back-line by the defensive team.

Long corners will be taken from the corner of the field (i.e.. Where the back-line/sideline intersect)
NO deliberate lifting
NO Goalies
Replacement players when players are absent: Replacement players must come from the same grade or lower.
$20 entry per player.

A great way to meet and play with players you may not usually play with, hone your skills of Summer and new players to get a feel for the great game in a friendly, casual environment.

UMPIRES ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL GAMES.

SUMMER SIZZLERS:
A half pitch competition for our juniors, new and old under 12 years of age.
An exciting format to get the youngsters out on the pitch falling in love with hockey!

5 week season every Friday evening at 6pm, culminating in finals matches
coinciding with the club Christmas party on Friday December 6th.

Junior Competition: U8, U10 U12 to begin at 6:00pm and finish at 7:00pm and played on a half field.
$10 entry per player.

Free snags will be supplied weekly and canteen will be in full swing for refreshments.
